Introduction

The Team Project requires you to analyze some of the business aspects of two different businesses operating within the same industry, within the framework of the course material and any other suitable material. The final report of the Project is due by March 27, 2021.

 

Outputs and Outcome                                                                                          

You must submit your analysis, findings and recommendations in three separate formats, i.e.:

  • A draft report (worth 50 points)
  • a final report (worth 130 points)
  • an oral / visual in-class presentation (worth 70 points).

The combined points, out of 250, will then be converted to a percentage (i.e., out of 100), and this will be worth 25% of the overall grade for this course.

 

Task

Your task is to apply theories, models, concepts and principles from the course to enable you analyze, compare and contrast one of the following pairs of businesses:

  1. a) Marriott International vs. Hilton Worldwide and
  2. b) American Express Global Business Travel. vs. Expedia Group

 

Your analysis should focus on each company’s:

  1. Historical development/ Form of business Ownership
  2. Marketing and Customer Service
  3. Hiring policy and practice (Human Resource Management)
  4. Ethics and Social responsibility

 

Effective Teamwork

 It is increasingly becoming relevant to have and demonstrate the ability to work in and with a team. This project will therefore be team based. Your instructor reserves the right to change the groupings as deemed appropriate. Your pair of businesses will also be assigned randomly. Information on groupings and assigned pair will be attached in a separate document. Every student is expected to contribute to the group work equally. At the end of the term, each group will be given an evaluation form to evaluate individual contributions to the projects. Students who do not contribute will be duly penalized. The group should notify the Instructor of any group challenges as soon as possible. Do not wait till the end of the term!

 

Research and Data Collection

You are allowed to use a combination of primary and secondary data for this project. However, you should Not attempt to set up a formal interview with the company, as there is a specific protocol to follow for this. You are also strongly advised to mainly use secondary data given the COVID-19 pandemic. If you choose to visit a company in-person to obtain primary data, do take note that you are responsible for observing any health and safety protocols. Also, note that this is not a research report. That is, you are not to simply present information you find or obtain. The project requires you to analyze research/information obtained. Remember, every information, summary, ideas, paraphrases etc. obtained have to be cited using the APA style. Do not simply copy and paste from the internet. Also, do not copy and submit already submitted papers along these lines. You will receive an academic alert and a score of Zero.

 

Draft Report

Each group is required to submit a draft report to Canvas by 11:59 pm on March 12. The report submitted will be 5% of the overall grade for the term project. The purpose of the draft report is to give your group an opportunity to receive feedback to help you produce a good final report. This is not an outline and should not be treated as such. Think of this as submitting your final report. The more you are able to write, the more feedback you will receive. Office hours on Wednesday, March 10 will be primarily dedicated to answering questions for students who have questions concerning the end of term project.
